Advice for the Avid Collector

Antique/Vintage Cameras

The technology of the camera has come a long way since they were first invented.  The word "photography" gets it's name from the Greek "photos" which means "light" and "graphein" which means "to draw".

Daguerreotype

There were a number of people working on the "camera" at the same time with varying results.  In 1827, Joseph Nicéphore Niépce invented the first fixed image however the process was very long and the results weren't great.  A couple of years later he partnered with Joseph Nicéphore Niépce and together they developed a more practical solution several years later.  They called this new technology the daguerreotype.

Pinhole Cameras and Camera Obscura

Although the first fixed photo was developed in the 19th century, the history of the camera actually goes back much further.  To the 11th century in fact.
